WILLOW

Hi Kate, your journalism career began when you were the Style Editor for the Sunday Telegraph, after which you were appointed the Fashion Editor for the Sun-Herald where you reported on the latest trends. What do you love about Fashion?

KATE

I’ve always had a love of fashion. I grew up with all the women in my family from my mum, aunt and grandmothers always have a beautiful sense of style and they all dressed impeccably. My mum always had a flare for fashion and I would watch her get ready for the races every week- race day attire is the complete outfit with hat, shoes, gloves. As a child I would spend hours and hours playing dress ups in my mother’s wardrobe; so I think because I was always surrounded by it my entire childhood, it was a huge inspiration.

What are your top wardrobe tips?

KATE

Invest in good quality pieces that can be used over multiple seasons. Pieces such a tailored blazer, a trench coat, long wool coat, tailored pants.

WILLOW

Any big Fashion regrets?

KATE

In past years I have let go of clothing and accessories that have come back into fashion. It’s amazing to see trends come full circle. Especially with handbags- at the time I think I’d never wear them again and then when the trend returns, I look back and think why did I let that go!?

WILLOW

If you could be the Head of Design at Willow for a day, what would you make?

KATE

Years ago had a beautiful Willow black cropped jacket and matching dress. The fabrication was gorgeous and it was beautifully made. The jacket could be worn also with jeans so I wore it all the time. I would remake this look.

WILLOW

We’re always curious what people are watching or reading that they can recommend. Is there anything you’ve seen recently that you loved?

KATE

When it comes to TV, I love series such as The Crown and the Ozark.

Don’t judge me but the moment I’m reading Spare, it sounds cliché, I love a little bit of Royal insight!

WILLOW

And do you have a favourite song right now?

KATE

Green green grass by George Ezra- my kids burst into song and dance when that comes on, so it always puts a smile on my face.

WILLOW

Lastly, we’d love to know what have you been dreaming about?

KATE

Holidays! My friend is getting married in Italy in June this year so I can’t wait for a trip overseas. I always love seeing the different fashion, architecture, homewares, and eating all the amazing food. I get so inspired by travel - the people I meet and the places I see.
